About Alleppey
Alappuzha, formerly named as Alleppey, in Kerala is
one of the major backwater destination in India.
Situated in the southern state of Kerala, Alleppey has
shot into fame for its famous boat race. The coir
manufacturing here also produce coir of a very high
quality. The Dutch and the Portuguese were the initial
rulers of the place. Later, Maharaja Marthandavarma
came to power and tremendously developed the
infrastructure of the Place. This also resulted in the
organization of a number of coir factories.
Alleppey is well-known for its boat races,
houseboats, coir products, fish and lakes. Alappuzha
remains prominent on the tourist attractions of Kerela
as one of the major centers for backwater cruises.

Alleppey beach is a popular tourist

Karumadikkuttan
Karumadikkuttan is located 3 km east of
Ambalapuzha, this village is known for its 10th
century Karumadikkuttan statue, a black granite
figure of the great Buddha, the founder of Buddhism.
There are many interesting legends connected to this
idol.
Champakulam
Champakulam - the water logged village
is also the place of oldest angadi (market) known as
Kalloorkkadu angadi. The St. Mary Forane Church built
in 427 A D is another major attraction famous for its
attractive mural paintings for both tourists and
believer. In Champakulam you can see Nadubhagum and
Champakulam snake boats which take part in the annual
snake boat races.
