COONOOR
In the lap of nature and the Niligiri Hills Coonoor is a picturesque hill resort. Since long the hill resort of Coonoor has attracted the holidaymakers, nature lovers, adventure seekers, film directors et al alike. The rich flora and fauna add to the beauty of the hill resort. The other famous hill resort of the Nilgiris is that of Ooty/ Udhagamandalam/ Ootacamund. Besides nature spots Coonoor offers opportunities for adventure sports like trekking and hiking too. In the summer months the hill resort is crowded with refugees from the hot and dusty plains.

About Coonoor
Coonoor, a beautiful and serene hill station of Tamil Nadu, lies in the Nilgiri Hills. Coonoor derives its name from the Coon hill tribe of the region. Tea bushes, Grassy meadows, profusion of Sunflowers, Marigolds and Rhododendrons characterize Coonoor. Coonoor is basically a small tea estate town where the weather remains pleasant all through the year. Based on its relief, the town is divided into upper and lower Coonoor. Coonoor is one of the three popular hill stations in the Nilgiri Hills, the other two being Ooty and Kotagiri.
 

Major Tourist Attractions in Coonoor
Sim's Park
The Sim's Park is a famous landmark at Coonoor. The park is a botanical garden, spread over 12 hectares and has a collection of over 1,000 plant species that includes magnolia, tree ferns, pines and camellia. This park was developed partly in the Japanese style and is named after J. D. Sim, former secretary of the Madras Club. The annual fruit and vegetable show, held in May, is the main attraction of the botanical garden.

Dolphin's Nose Viewpoint
It is 10 kms from Coonoor. The Dolphin's Nose Viewpoint is an important place to visit. It provides a panoramic view of the vast expanse of the Nilgiri hills and the famous Catherine Falls.

Law's Falls
The Law's falls which is named after Col. Law, who traced and mainly constructed the new Coonoor ghat, is a pretty cascade on the Coonoor river near its junction with the Mettupalayam ghat road. A little lower down the torrent is crossed by the ghat road over it. The falls is about 5 kilometers below Coonoor at the junction of Coonoor and Kateri rivers on the Coonoor,Mettupalayam road. It is one of the prettiest places in the district and it attracts many visitors. The Law's falls is a paradise for aturalists,is very wild and rocky.

Ooty
The famous hill station of Ooty, also known as the queen of hill stations is 19 km northwest of Coonoor. Ooty is an immensely popular tourist destination. Like Coonoor, Ooty is also set amongst the green settings of the Nilgiri hills and is famous for its lake, gardens, and colonial architecture. You can enjoy a number of outdoor activities like horse riding, trekking, hiking, and boating in Ooty.

Getting There
Coonoor does not have an airport of its own. The nearest airport is in Coimbatore. Coonoor is on the toy-train line between Mettupalayam (28 km) and Ooty.
