DARIA DAULAT BAGH (SUMMER PALACE)
0F TIPU SULTAN
Built in 1784, Daria Daulat Bagh was Tipu's Summer
Palace in Mysore. This Indo-Sarcenic structure is built of
teak and has ornate and beautiful frescos. Daria Daulat
Bagh is now converted to a museum which tells about
Tipu's atrocities and his losing battle against the
British. Tipu Sultan used this palace as a retreat from
the strenuous life of a king. The vibrant color of the
monument and the arabesque work gives the palace a
different and attractive dimension. Daria Daulat Bagh at
present houses a museum which is better known as the Tipu
Sultan Museum. This museum is one of its kinds in the
whole country by keeping in mind the fact that this is a
museum that is devoted fully to a person.
History
'Daria Daulat Bagh' or the Summer Palace of 'Tipu
Sultan' in Karnataka in India was built in the year 1784.
The building was originally constructed by Haider Ali,
father of Tipu sultan. It is said that the money to build
this majestic palace came from the sea trade that was
highly in operation during that time. Colonel Wellesley
occupied the place after the death of Tipu Sultan and then
later on Lord Dalhousie took some commendable steps to
renovate and hold on the essence of the palace. Daria
Daulat Bagh or the Summer Palace of Tipu Sultan was
acknowledged as a national monument in the year 1959. |
