DEHRADUN
Dehra Dun is situated on the threshold of a world full
of adventure, spiritualism and tranquility, amidst the
Shivalik ranges, the foothills of Himalayas, Dehra Dun
is an entry point for all the trekkers and mountaineers
onto their journey into the Garhwal Himalayas. A gateway
to the popular hill station of Mussoorie and the
pilgrimage centers of Haridwar and Rishikesh, Dehra Dun
boasts of the famous Forest Research Institute and the
Indira Gandhi National Forest Academy. Doon Valley finds
its place between the two most important rivers of India
Ganga and Yamuna, and is a picturesque town with moderate

Tourist Attractions in Dehradun
Rajaji National Park
Though Rajaji has not been notified as a national park,
yet it enjoys all the privileges of one. It will soon be
getting the status of a national park. 820 sq. kms of
beautiful green belt of Shivaliks is occupied by Rajaji
National Park.
Forest Research Institute
one of the most famous institutes in Dehradun, this pace
is an interesting place to visit in Deharadun. The
museum and the botanical garden are the chief attractions
here.
Tapkeshwar Temple
Tapkeshwar Temple is situated amidst the
picturesque outskirts of Dehradun. It is dedicated to Lord
Shiva, as the God of strict rituals of 'tap' (meditation).
One can reach the temple only after climbing a long flight
of stairs. After reaching the top, you will encounter
mesmerizing views of the valley below - with the gushing
river flowing nearby.
Sahastradhara
Sulphur springs have long been credited with unique
healing powers for certain diseases both in the early
eastern and the western medical sciences. 14 km from the
centre of the city, Sahastradhara is such a place where
one can see people coming from far off with their ailing
loved ones in search of a natural cure. It also makes an
excellent picnic spot with its lush green surroundings and
foaming waterfall.
Robber's Cave
8 km from Dehra Dun, just beyond the Anarwala village, the
famous Robber's Cave is a fabulous picnic spot, which is
sure to delight the visitors. It is known for a strange
phenomenon as a stream of water suddenly disappears from
sight at a point and then reappears again a few meters
ahead as a squally stream.
Getting There
By Air: The nearest Jolly Grant Airport is 25 km
from Dehradun. It is connected to Delhi with Indian
Airlines having five flights a week from Delhi to this
airport.
By Train: Dehradun is well linked to all the major
cities of the state by trains. There are direct daily
trains that come here from Delhi, Calcutta, Mumbai,
Varanasi, Lucknow and other places.
By Road: Well connected by good and smooth roads
and there are daily bus services that connect Dehra Dun to
Mussoorie and Delhi.
