The
Crafts Museum at Pragati Maidan in Delhi
displays the extraordinarily rich handicrafts. The
visitors, however, love the presence of the
craftsmen and women with whom they can freely
interact. The craftsmen demonstrate their amazing
skills before an appreciative audience. It has some
of the finest artistic items that you will find in
India. The Crafts Museum began way back in the year
1956 with the intention of showcasing the work of
different artisans. Today it has some of the finest
craftsmen in the country and it also famous for the
artistic display of various villages.
Museum in Delhi :
Museums in Delhi, the capital city of India, are
a showcase of the past and the present. Art lovers
would certainly love the splendid display of
contemporary art in the National Gallery of Modern
Art at Jaipur House. One can also have a glimpse

Indira Memorial Museum
Another national museum has been built at 1
Safdarjung Rd in memorium of Indira Gandhi, on May
27, 1985. Indira Gandhi was assassinated by her own
body guard on 31 Oct, 1984. A glass cage has covered
the spot where her body fell down. Before being
bullet sprayed in from point blank range, Indira was
on her way along the garden road out of her
residence.
At that place Czechoslovak Govt made a artificial
water flow by crystal on steel plate of 33´25 m. The
crystal stream on the steel plate is designed and
planned by the Czech architect Jaroslav Mirich. 3
rooms are full with articles which were in use by
Indira. Photographs of Indira are also there. The
blood-stained sari and other dress materials of
Indira are chemically preserved in the museum. You
may go inside the private chambers to view reading
room, dinning room, Dewan-i-Aam, Dewan-i-Khas etc.

Nehru Museum & Planetorium -
The Teen Murti
house was the residence of India's first Prime
minister Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru. After his death the
house was converted into a memorial. The Nehru
memorial has a collection of gifts and many other
items which he possessed. Nehru Planetorium is
within the compound of Teen Murti. This planetorium
gives a overview of the Indian Space program. There
are daily film shows which are screened in a
specially designed auditorium. These films are meant
to give information about the Universe or any other
topic related to that. The Capsule in which Rakesh
Sharma went into space is also kept here.

Shankar's International Dolls Museum
One of the largest and best collections of costume
dolls all over the world, Delhi Dolls Museum is
suitably named Shankar's International Dolls Museum
after its founder K. Shankar Pillai. In 1957, the
museum had kicked off with its modest collection of
just a thousand dolls. 5,000 more dolls were added
to its collection (most of them were sent in as
gifts) between 1965 and 1987. Today, the museum
boasts of over 6,500 exhibits from 85 different
countries. There are two sections of the museum. One
of them displays dolls from Yugoslavia, Greece,
Mexico, Thailand, Poland, South Korea, the United
Kingdom, former USSR, North and South America,
Australia, New Zealand and other countries while the
other section displays dolls from Asian countries,
the Middle East, Africa, and different states of
India.
