HASSAN
Around 190 kms from the capital city of Bangalore is Hassan, an ideal base to explore the historical places like Belur, Haleibid and Shravanbelagola. Not much is known about the history of the place, but only that it was under the rule of the great Hoysala Empire between the 11th and the 14th century. Although there is not much importance attached to Hassan, it was known to be an important center of Jainism and literature of Jain articles. It forms the best base camp for the important places of the historical important places.

Tourist Attractions in Hassan
Halebid
39 km from Hassan, Halebid was formerly known as Dwarasamudra, the ancient capital of the Hoysala Empire. The highlights of the city are the 12th century Hoysaleswara temple with friezes and sculptures depicting scenes from Hindu mythology and the Archaeological Museum displaying 12th-13th century sculptures, woodcarvings, idols, coins and inscriptions.

Belur
Belur is located on the banks of the river Yagachi. It was once the capital of the Hoysala Empire, today made memorable for its impressive temples. The Chennakeshava Temple is one of the finest examples of Hoysala architecture. It took 103 years to complete this temple. The facade of the temple is filled with intricately carved sculptures and friezes.

Shravanabelagola
Wedged between two stark rocky hills, this legendary pilgrim center and shrine of the Jain's since early times is 51 kms south-east of Hassan. The monolithic, 27 m. high statue of Lord Bahubali is situated here. The Mahamastakabhisheka festival, an elaborate ritual, held here once every 12 years attracts thousands of devotees. During the festival the 1000 year old statue is anointed with milk, curds, ghee, saffron, and gold coins. The last Mahamastakabhisheka was held in 2005 A.D. Just opposite to Shravanbelagola is the smaller Chandragiri hill, where some ancient Jain temples and the tomb of Chandragupta Maurya, a famous patron of Jainism resides.

Getting There
Air : Hassan does not have an airport. The nearest airport is Bangalore, from where one can take flights to major destinations in India like Delhi, Calcutta, and Mumbai. One can also take connecting flights to destinations abroad from Bangalore.
Rail : Hassan is connected to Bangalore, Mysore, and Mangalore by regular trains. The railway station is around 2 km east of town.
Road : Hassan is linked with Belur, Halebid, Shravanbelgola, Bangalore and Mysore by road. We would provide you all India tourist permit vehicles for the local transportations and also for the intercity drives too.
