Himachal Pradesh
Situated in North India, Himachal Pradesh (Abode of
Snow) is surrounded by Jammu & Kashmir on the north;
Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh to the south; Uttaranchal
to the south east and the Chinese territory of Tibet to
the east. The state is mostly covered by the low Shivalik
hill range towards the south and the dramatically high
trans-Himalayan ranges as you go north. Many parts of the
Himachal state have a distinctly Austrian look with
conifer-clad mountains, chalet-like huts with overhanging
balconies and serene blue valleys watered by snow-fed

Manali
Situated at the northern end of the Kullu
valley, Manali has spectacular views of snowcapped peaks

destination and trailhead for numerous treks as well as a

Kullu Valley

this is no place for men". It is situated on the banks of
the river Beas on the lower reaches of the Himalayas.
Kullu is known for its ancient temples, apple orchards and
the annual Dusshera Festival. Kullu is also famous for its
handicrafts and woolens like shawl, caps, puhla, namdas
and patoos.
Shimla
Shimla truly known as "Destination for all seasons".
Christ Church is the second oldest church and is one of

Kangra Valley
Kangra Valley: One of Himachal's beautiful valleys, it

them were built by the Rajput warrior tribes. There is a
charming Tibetan Settlement in Mc Leodganj, with bustling
bazaars.
Himachal State Museum
Himachal State Museum Very close to the Institute, in a
colonial building set in spacious lawns, is the museum. It
has collections of Pahariminiatures, stone sculpture,
local handicrafts, textiles and embroidery.
How to Reach
Air: The state has three airports at Bhuntar,
Gaggal, and Jubbarhatti, which connect the state to Delhi
and Chandigarh via regular flights by Indian Airlines.
Rail: Only few places in Himachal Pradesh are
connected by trains, as the construction of new lines are
very difficult in the rugged, high altitude regions.
Road: Despite problems in constructing new roads
and maintaining them, most of the important places in the
state are connected with a good road network.
