Jaisalmer - The Desert City
Deep in the heart of the Thar Desert is Jaisalmer, one of the last princely bastions in the region. Founded on what was the cross - road of lucrative trade routes, this remote settlement came to be celebrated for the valour of its rulers, and for the aesthetic sense represented by their palaces and havelis.

The Havelis and the Forts add beauty to the city and attract people form all over the globe to this beautiful desert city of Rajasthan. Jaisalmer is a marvel of beautiful culture and harsh climatic conditions, together amounting to a memorable experience.  The best time to visit this desert city is the winter season (November to February) when the heat becomes comparatively low. The desert festival held during the last winter months of January and February is the most opportune time for the people to visit Jaisalmer.

History
The city Jaisalmer was founded by Bhatti Rajput Rawal Jaisal in 1156. The history of Jaisalmer also reveals the courage and determination of the Rajputs. The city used to be a major trade center as it was the trade route of the western countries to India.

Sightseeing Jaisalmer:
Jaisalmer Fort
Rising from the heart of the Thar Desert like a golden mirage is the city of Jaisalmer. A commanding fort etched in yellow sandstone stands with all its awesome splendor, dominating the amber-hued city. The city has an interesting legend associated with it, according to which, lord Krishna- the head of Yadav clan foretold Arjuna that a remote descendent of the Yadav clan would build his kingdom atop the Trikuta Hill, His prophecy was fulfilled in 1156AD.
Patwon-Ji-Ki-Haveli
This is one of the largest and most elaborate Haveli in Jaisalmer and stands in a narrow lane. It is five storeys high and is extensively carved. It is divided into six apartments, two owned by archaeological Survey of India, two by families who operate craft-shops and two private homes. There are remnants of paintings on some of the inside walls as well as some mirror work.
Nathmalji-ki-Haveli: The late 19th century haveli with intricate architecture display sheer craftsmanship. The interior walls are ornate with splendid miniature paintings.
Jain Temple: The Jaisalmer Fort has three exquisitely carved Jain Temples dedicated to the Jain Tirthankars - Rishabhdev, Sambhavnath and Paraswanath.

How to Reach
By Air:
The nearest airport is the Jodhpur airport, 285 Km away from Jaisalmer. There is an airport at Jaisalmer also but that is managed by the Indian Air Force and is operational only from September to March.
By Rail: Jaisalmer is well connected by rail network with Jodhpur as well as other major cities of India such as Jaipur, Agra, New Delhi and Mumbai.
By Road: Jaisalmer has a well-developed network of roads and is very well connected to other cities of Rajasthan such as Jaipur, Jodhpur and Bikaner and other cities of India.
