About Kovalam
Kovalam, meaning "a groove of coconut trees," is just 10 km from the state capital of Kerala- Thiruvananthapuram. Kovalam is actually a combination of three small beaches. Among these, the southernmost beach, named Lighthouse Beach, is the most frequented beach in Kovalam.

Thirty years ago, Kovalam was a hippy idyll a picture perfect tropical beach a traditional fishing village providing fresh fish, fruits and toddy (coconut beer). Major Tourist Attractions in Kovalam
The Great Kovalam Poets: Anceint Kovalam Poets Ayyippilla Assan and Ayyanappilla Assan were the authors of the Great Epics, Janakeeya Maha Kaviangal Ramakatha Pattu and Bharathampattu respectively. They lived in Kovalam, near the Light House Beach, Avaduthura in 1400 A.D. The monument isprotected by the Kerala Govt. Archaeological Department.
