Mangalore is situated 357 Km away from
Bangalore, it is nestling on the side of Arabian Sea.
Mangalore was once the major port during the reign of
Hyder Ali. Mangalore has got a large number of important
tourist sites. This city of Mangalore is said to have been
named after the famous Mangaladevi Temple.
The exceptionally fine location of Mangalore on a narrow
coastal strip between the towering Western Ghats on one
side and the azure Arabian sea on the other has attracted

Tourist Attractions in Mangalore
Sultan Battery
The Sultan Battery is one of the most prominent places of
interest in Mangalore. The importance of this place
of the city is that it bears testimony of the historical
events that have taken place at this place.
Kadri Manjunath Temple:
Kadri Temple which is situated in Kadri hills, is
dedicated to Lord Manjunatheshwara. Built around 10th
century, the temple has the oldest statue of Lord
Manjunathaswamy in South India.
St. Aloysius Church
St. Aloysius Church is situated 1 kms away from Nehru
Maidan Bus stand. Built in the year 1899-1900, the walls
of the church are covered with the paintings of the artist
Antony Moshaini of Italy. St. Aloysius College Chapel, an
architectural gem, comparable with the Sistine chapel in
Rome, is situated on lighthouse hill. The special beauty
of the chapel is the wonderful series of paintings that
virtually cover every inch of the interior roof and walls.
Mangaladevi Temple
This temple has a history of how Mangalore got its name.
Goddess Mangala Devi, the divine mother, was immensely
pleased with the devotion of Bhargava, and told him, that
she would dwell in his place as Mangala Devi, to be
worshipped by devotees. People started knowing this place
as Mangalapura, which later became Mangalore.
