MOUNT ABU

Mount Abu is a pleasant retreat set between the lush green forested hills in the barren desertscape of Rajasthan, India. The hilly retreat is known for its pleasant climate throughout the year and was a favourite summer resort of the British. Mt. Abu surrounds a beautiful lake and is located at an altitude of 1,220 m above sea level. It is also the site of the exquisite Dilwara Jain temples. Till the 11th century, the hill station was an important Vaishnav and Shiva pilgrimage centre. The only hill town of Rajasthan is visited for its scenic locales and unhurried lifestyle.

SIGHTSEEING MOUNT ABU :
Gaumukh Temple
You can see a natural spring that flows through a sculpted cow's head at this temple. The temple received its name from this sculpture. Against the beautiful backdrop stands an exquisitely sculpted hill temple of Arbuda, a mighty serpent who saved Nandi, the sacred bull of Lord Shiva. The marble image of Nandi is located nearby.

Dilwara Jain Temple
Built between 11th & 13th century, these world famous temples are famous for their beautiful carvings in marble. These temples are dedicated to the Jain Tirthankaras. Built in 1031 A.D., The Vimal Vasahi temple is the oldest of these temples dedicated to the first Tirthankara.

Sunset Point

Enjoy fabulous views of the sun setting over the hills at this popular tourist spot located a few minutes away from the Nakki Lake. There are many rocky seats on the hills, from which calm and charming scene of the setting sun could be conveniently seen, on the plains beyond horizon. Sun Set can also be seen from the Guru Shikhar - the highest point at Mount Abu. From this place, thousands of feet down in the plains the charming sight of distant places, villages and beutiful green valleys represents very attractive atmosphere.

Shri Raghunathji Temple

Dedicated to Shri Raghunathji, the temple is situated near Nakki Lake.

Nakki Lake
Mount Abu has not many lakes in its premises or vicinity. The most famous lake found in Mount Abu is Nakki Lake. It is a serene and placid lake, one of the major tourist attractions of Mount Abu and situated beside it, is the Sri Raghunathji temple and the Maharaja Jaipur Palace.

How to Reach
Airway: Udaipur (185 km) is the nearest airport. Taxis and buses are available to reach Mount Abu.
Railway: There are direct trains to Abu Road Station (27 km away from Mount Abu) from Delhi, Jodhpur and Agra. A fast train takes four hours between Ahmedabad in Gujarat and Abu Road.
Roadway: Regular buses connect Abu Road to Mount Abu. The journey takes about an hour. Taxis and jeeps are also available to take you to Mount Abu. Direct buses also connect Mount Abu with Udaipur and Ahmedabad.
