MANALI

Manali with its unspoilt scenic grandeur is extremely popular with the tourists, for a lavish display of natural scenery. It is one of the principal show places of the Kullu region. The raw magnificence of Manali's natural beauty has to be seen, and experienced, to be believed. Proud, snowclad mountains, dense forests, emerald valleys, exotic flowers, gurgling streams meandering through meadows, it is sheer magic.

PRIME ATTRACTIONS

Kullu : The most charming and beautiful Kulu valley spreads out its charm on either side of river Beas. The valley runs north to south of this river and is 80kms. long and about 2kms. at its broadest. Yet with awe inspiring glens and mossy meadows encircled by the rushing streams and meandering brooks, flung east & west, a fairly wide area is open to the tourists, the trekkers, the mountaineers, the artists and to anyone who wishes to escape the heat & dust of the plains to breathe the exhilarating air of the Himalaya and enjoy the spectacle of the variegated mountain scenery. Hadimba Temple: The Hadimba Temple in Himachal Pradesh is one of the ancient Temples in the state. Situated in Dhoongri, a small village in Manali district, the Hadimba Temple is associated with the legend of the Mahabharata. Due to its location, the temple of Hadimba is also known as the Dhoongri temple.
Gadhan Thekchoking Gompa: This Gompa dominates the Tibetan area around the bottom of the Mall in Manali. The Tibetan refugees built the Gompa in the late 1960's. The Gompa is covered with brightly coloured frescoes and a mid size Buddhist statute. It also carries a list of the martyrs killed in occupation of Tibet of 1987 to 1989.
Temple of Manu: Slippery stones paths lead through the old village houses up to the temple of Manu. Manali is named after the sage Manu who meditated when he came in this area.
Rohtang Pass: Rohtang Pass is the highest point, 4,112m, on the Manali-Keylong road, 51-km from Manali town. It provides a wide panoramic view of mountains rising far above clouds, which is a sight truly breath-taking.
Tibetan Temple: Tibetans have a base in Manali too. There is a large modern Tibetan temple to the South of the bus stand and also a small handicrafts center.
Arjun Gufa: On the left bank of the Beas, 5-km from Manali near the village of Prini, is the 'Arjun Gufa' or the cave of Arjuna. In here Arjuna practiced austerities to get Pashupata Ashtra or weapon from Lord Indra.

How to Reach
By Air: The nearest airport is in Bhuntar (50kms). This is actually a small airport and it rather advisable to avoid air connection to Manali since this is not a very convenient means to reach Manali.
By Road: Manali as a popular tourist destination, has a very good network of roads. One can easily reach Manali by road.
By Rail: The nearest railhead is Chandigarh, which is the capital city of Punjab & Haryana.
