MANALI
Manali with its unspoilt scenic grandeur is
extremely popular with the tourists, for a lavish display
of natural scenery. It is one of the principal show places
of the Kullu region. The raw magnificence of Manali's
natural beauty has to be seen, and experienced, to be
believed. Proud, snowclad mountains, dense forests,
emerald valleys, exotic flowers, gurgling streams
meandering through meadows, it is sheer magic.

Kullu : The most
charming and beautiful Kulu valley spreads out its
charm on either side of river Beas. The valley runs north
to south of this river and is 80kms. long and about 2kms.
at its broadest. Yet with awe inspiring glens and mossy
meadows encircled by the rushing streams and meandering
brooks, flung east & west, a fairly wide area is open to
the tourists, the trekkers, the mountaineers, the artists
and to anyone who wishes to escape the heat & dust of the
plains to breathe the exhilarating air of the Himalaya and
enjoy the spectacle of the variegated mountain scenery.

Hadimba Temple: The Hadimba
Temple in Himachal Pradesh is one of the ancient Temples
in the state. Situated in Dhoongri, a small village in
Manali district, the Hadimba Temple is associated with the
legend of the Mahabharata. Due to its location, the temple
of Hadimba is also known as the Dhoongri temple.
Gadhan Thekchoking Gompa: This Gompa dominates the
Tibetan area around the bottom of the Mall in Manali. The
Tibetan refugees built the Gompa in the late 1960's. The
Gompa is covered with brightly coloured frescoes and a mid
size Buddhist statute. It also carries a list of the
martyrs killed in occupation of Tibet of 1987 to 1989.
Temple of Manu: Slippery stones paths lead through
the old village houses up to the temple of Manu. Manali is
named after the sage Manu who meditated when he came in
this area.
Rohtang Pass: Rohtang Pass is the highest point,
4,112m, on the Manali-Keylong road, 51-km from Manali
town. It provides a wide panoramic view of mountains
rising far above clouds, which is a sight truly
breath-taking.
Tibetan Temple: Tibetans have a base in Manali too.
There is a large modern Tibetan temple to the South of the
bus stand and also a small handicrafts center.
Arjun Gufa: On the left bank of the Beas, 5-km from
Manali near the village of Prini, is the 'Arjun Gufa' or
the cave of Arjuna. In here Arjuna practiced austerities
to get Pashupata Ashtra or weapon from Lord Indra.
How to Reach
By Air: The nearest airport is in Bhuntar (50kms).
This is actually a small airport and it rather advisable
to avoid air connection to Manali since this is not a very
convenient means to reach Manali.
By Road: Manali as a popular tourist destination,
has a very good network of roads. One can easily reach
Manali by road.
By Rail: The nearest railhead is Chandigarh, which
is the capital city of Punjab & Haryana.
